Oxygen increases blood circulation and excites melanin production within the skin, which brings it up to the top layer of your skin, causing it to oxidize faster. The more oxygen your melanin is exposed to, the faster you tan. It encourages the body’s production of melanin. This pigment helps protect the skin from the harmful affects of ultra violet rays. Oxygen promotes a safer, darker tan and also helps to hydrate the skin and lessen the affects of dry damage. Skin with lower oxygen levels will burn rather than tan.
